Immaculate Heart of Mary National Home School and Parent Conference
Chantilly, VA / Washington D.C. | June 13/14, 2009

Teen Program

Friday, June 12

1:45 - 2:30 PM:  Prof. Brendan McGuire
Signed With the Cross: The Story of the First Crusade
In 1099, the First Crusade captured the Holy City of Jerusalem from its Islamic rulers.  Motivated by the spiritual benefits associated with pilgrimage, thousands of European knights answered the Papacy’s call.  This Crusade is thus a window into the mindset of medieval Christians and an example of what can be achieved through Faith.
3:00 - 3:45 PM:  Fr. Stephen McGraw
God’s Providence in the Midst of Chaos: A Priest at the Pentagon on 9/11
Barely three months ordained, Fr. McGraw was running late for a graveside service at Arlington Cemetery on the morning of Sept. 11th, 2001 when he took what he thought was a “wrong turn,” ending up in standstill traffic in front of the Pentagon.  What happened in the world-changing moments that followed convinced him that Someone had placed a Catholic priest, an instrument of salvation, right where he had to be.
4:15 - 5:00 PM:  Dr. John Cuddeback
Man’s Quest for Happiness
What is happiness?  This is one of the most important questions in human history.  Everyone wants to be happy, but where can happiness be found?  Is happiness something that only a good person can have?
